Privacy Policy
- Aina stores all your financial data locally in your browser — never on a server.
- We collect no personal information, usage data, or analytics of any kind.
- We have no backend, no database, and no way to access your data even if we wanted to.
- The only external network requests are optional and entirely under your control.
1. Who we are
Aina Finance ("Aina", "we", "our") is a personal finance Progressive Web App available at ainafinance.com. Aina is designed as a zero-collection, offline-first tool — privacy is not a feature we added; it is the architecture.
2. Data we do not collect
Aina does not collect, transmit, store, or process any of the following on our end:
- Your financial data, transactions, account balances, or any figures you enter
- Your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information
- Usage analytics, page views, clicks, or session recordings
- Device identifiers, IP addresses, or browser fingerprints
- Crash reports or error logs
- Cookies of any kind (Aina sets no cookies)
There is no analytics SDK, no error reporting service, no A/B testing framework, and no advertising network integrated into this application. Aina cannot phone home — there is nothing to phone.
3. Where your data lives
All data you enter into Aina — transactions, categories, assets, budgets — is stored exclusively in your browser's IndexedDB storage, a private, sandboxed database that only the Aina application on your device can access.
Clearing your browser's site data or uninstalling the app will permanently delete all stored data. We strongly recommend using the built-in export or Google Drive backup to maintain your own copies.
4. Google Fonts
Aina loads fonts (DM Sans, Instrument Serif, JetBrains Mono) from Google Fonts on first visit. This is the one request made to an external server during normal use. Google may log your IP address as part of this request, subject to Google's Privacy Policy. After the first visit, fonts are cached by the service worker and no further requests to Google are made.
If you prefer complete network isolation, you can use Aina entirely offline after the initial load — all fonts will be served from the local cache.
5. Google Drive backup (optional)
Aina offers an optional integration with Google Drive. If you choose to enable it:
- You are redirected to Google's OAuth consent screen to authorise Aina access to a specific Drive folder.
- The OAuth access token is stored only on your device (in memory and browser storage). Aina's servers never see it.
- Backup files are uploaded directly from your browser to your own Google Drive account. We have no access to your Drive.
- Backups can optionally be encrypted with a passphrase using AES-256-GCM before upload. The passphrase never leaves your device.
Google Drive usage is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
6. Claude AI integration (optional)
Aina offers an optional AI-powered import mode that uses Anthropic's Claude API. If you choose to use it:
- You must provide your own Anthropic API key. Aina never has access to a shared key.
- Your API key is stored only on your device (in browser storage). It is never sent to any Aina-controlled server.
- When you trigger an AI import, transaction text from your statement is sent directly from your browser to Anthropic's API using your key.
- Anthropic's handling of that data is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Use of the AI mode is entirely optional. The local machine learning classifier works fully offline and involves no external requests.
7. Children's privacy
Aina is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Aina collects no personal information at all, there is no special risk to children using the application.
8. GDPR and CCPA
Because Aina does not collect, process, or store any personal data on our infrastructure, we do not act as a data controller or data processor under the GDPR or CCPA for your financial information. All processing happens locally on your device, which you control.
The only personal data that could be considered "processed" is the minimal information Google may log when loading fonts (see Section 4). For questions about that, please refer to Google's privacy documentation.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy — for example, by adding an optional feature that involves data collection — we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of Aina after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
